Boys Varsity Tennis · Blazer Tennis Competes At WYL Tournament


The Blazer tennis team sent 9 players to compete in the WYL Individual tournament based on their first place finish during the season.  Billy Torres and Andre Burgos played the #1 seed from Lemoore but lost in a tough tiebreaker.  Brandon Romer and Javier Gamez won their first match then lost their second round match.  Ben Price and Matt Duyst came home with the third pace medal winning the consolation against the Redwood team.  Stewart Bryan had his best day, knocking off his Redwood opponent to place third.  This was Stewarts first trip to the championship and he played amazing.  Juan Carlos Silva lived up to his number 2 seed and made the championship match.  Juan Carlos played hard but came up short against the number 1 from Redwood.  Golden West will send 4 players to the Area tournament.

The seeding’s for team playoffs were announced today, and GW was awarded the 3 seed.   After a first round bye, GW will host the second round on May 6th at the GW courts.

Coed Varsity Swimming · GW Swim/Dive Remain in Second With Win Over Lemoore


What a great day for the Blazers at the POOL yesterday! We honored our graduating SENIORS: Sara Beckley, Sierra Ecker, Elaine Draper, Breauna Harris, Heidi Wood, Hayden Brown, Alex Gostanian, Robert Green, Jordan Mulrooney, Seth Nordell, and  Tyler Weir, AND ALL TEAMS BEAT LEMOORE!

Varsity Girls     GW 127       Lemoore 53
The Lady Blazers remain in second place in the WYL with a resounding win over Lemoore. Double winners include Elaine Draper 50 Free and 100 Free, Victoria Richardson 200 IM and 100 Back and Kallyn Nordell took first in diving. The girls are looking great as we look forward to a big meet with our crosstown rivals next Thursday vs El D. Season record 7-1, WYL record 4-1.

Varsity Boys    GW 121    Lemoore 60
The Blazers are poised to finish in their highest place in the WYL since 2009 after beating Lemoore yesterday! Double winners include Robert Green 200 Free and 100 Fly, Markus Konrad 50 and 100 Free, Sawyer Nordell 200 IM and 500 Free, and Seth Nordell won diving. Season record 7-1 and WYL record 4-1.

JV Girls     GW 132     Lemoore 26
The JV Girls remain undefeated!!! Double winners included Kailyn Zwaagstra in 200 and 50 Free, Veronica Harris in 200 IM and 500 Free and Monica Sanchez in 100 Free and 100 Back. Season record 8-0, WYL record 5-0.

JV Boys    GW 95        Lemoore 30
The JV Boys were led by winners Michael Glispey 200 IM and 100 Breast, Dominick Zuchelkowski 100 Fly and 100 Back, Max Felsted 200 IM, Zack Timmer 500 Free, Eric Cregor 50 Free. Season record 7-1, WYL record 4-1.

Boys Varsity Tennis · GW TENNIS CAPTURES WYL TITLE


The GW Tennis team has won its first WYL title in 22 years.  After working hard all season long, the team finished out the season with a 9-0 win against El Diamante.  The team was lead by Juan Carlos Silva winning 6-2, 7-5. Ben Price played a thrilling tiebreaker with both teams watching to seal the win in singles.

Juan Carlos, Stewart Bryan and William Davila will represent GW on Friday in the WYL singles tournament.  Juan Carlos is the #2 seed, while Stewart was awarded the #5 seed.   The teams of Ben Price / Matt Duyst, Andre Burgos / Billy Torres and Brandon Romer/ Javier Gamez will be in the doubles tournament.  Ben and Matt are also the #2 seed.

VARSITY GIRLS:  GW 136     HW 40
The Lady Blazers won 9 of 12 races in their win over Hanford West. Golden West should their depth with 6 different individual winners including Elaine Draper 100 Fly, Mary Akin 100 Free, Kallyn Nordell 1 meter diving, Victoria Richardson 200 IM, Madeline Pace 100 Back and Melanie Henriksen 100 Breast. WYL Record 3-1, Season 6-1.

JV GIRLS:  GW 143      HW 18

The JV Lady Blazers won all 12 events on their way to a win against Hanford West. These amazing swimmers are the bright future Golden West Swimming and are still undefeated on the season 4-0 in WYL and 7-0 on the season!!

VARSITY BOYS:  GW  113    HW 54
The Trailblazers were led by 5 individual winners Robert Green 200 Free, Markus Konrad 100 Free, Seth Nordell 1 meter Diving, Sawyer Nordell 500 Free,  and Jeffrey Wheeler 100 Back in their win over Hanford West. Golden West is 3-1 in WYL and 6-1 on the season.

GW won all events with excellent swims by our JV boys. The JV blazers are 3-1 in the WYL and 6-1 on the season.

The Blazer Tennis team moved into first place in the WYL with an 8-1 win win over Lemoore. Once again all six singles player won their matches. Stewart Bryan avenged an earlier loss at the number two spot by winning 5-7, 6-0, 10-7. Matt Duyst continues his undefeated season cruising to a 6-1 v6-0 win. Matt and his partner Ben Price were impressive at number 2 doubles.

Ben is in the top 10 candidates for Mr. Trailblazer, so let’s show our support and vote for him.

Boys Varsity Tennis · GW Tennis Snaps Redwood’s Win Streak


The GW Tennis team came ready to play Monday as they hosted previously unbeaten Redwood.  The Blazers won all 6 singles to clinch the win.  William Davila and Matt Duyst were the first ones off the court with 6-0,6-3 wins.  Ben Price had a big win at number 3 singles winning 6-2, 7-6.  Brandon Romer continued his strong season with a 6-4 ,6-4 win.  Stewart Bryan had his best win at GW beating Redwoods Number 2 who had not lost all season.  Finishing the singles play was our Number 1, Juan Carlos Silva.  After winning the first set, Juan Carlos was down 4-1 in the second set.  As his team watched on, Juan Carlos played some tough tennis to win five straight games.  The final score was 6-3 , 6-4.  That win puts Juan Carlos at the top of the WYL players.  Matt Dust and Ben Price also won their doubles match for a final score of 7-2.

Thanks to all the students, teacher and parents who came out to support the team.  It was a great day to be a BLAZER!!

Boys Varsity Tennis · Blazer Tennis Beats Hanford West 8-1


The Golden West Tennis team had a big win over Hanford West on Monday.  The varsity team won 8-1 with wins in five of the six singles matches.  Golden West won all three doubles matches.  Matt Duyst has had a stellar season as he remains unbeaten in singles play. The JV team has been equally impressive this season as they posted a 4-1 win.  Javier Gamez leads the team at the number one spot. Golden West will challenge Redwood for the league title next Monday at Golden West.  Come and support your Blazer tennis team.
